Kyun Mirror and New Distros

~1 min read by naphtha, 2024-12-12

There are now mirrors in both locations (mirror.wa.us.kyun.network, mirror.b.ro.kyun.network).

The nearest mirror is reachable at mirror.kyun.network, via HTTP or HTTPS.

It's not a "full" mirror (yet), instead it's a caching proxy, like Cloudflare Mirrors. For already cached packages, installing will be much quicker.

Any new installs of Alpine, Arch, Debian and Ubuntu are automatically configured to use the Kyun mirror, existing installs have to be manually configured. Fedora, Rocky and Alma mirrors are also available (at /almalinux, /rockylinux and /fedora) but not auto-configured.

4 new Quick Install distros have been added:

BSDs (OpenBSD, FreeBSD, NetBSD) will also be added at some point in the future.

Some RHEL-based distros (Alma, Rocky) will not run on anything less than 1.5-2GB of RAM, and because of SELinux, any live updates of the system (hostname/authorized key changes) will require a reboot.
